Unsolvable Pain
“WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?” He erupted, flinging his arms about. She stood still in the white living room, her face defiant, angry.
“I WANT YOU HERE! I’m SICK of being ALONE.”
“You sound like a spoiled child.” He scoffed.
“I suppose that just what I am then! Forgive me for thinking that you actually cared about what happened to me.”
“Oh yeah? What’s going to happen to you while I’m gone!?”
“I don’t know! I can’t see into the future!!”
“Well you sounded pretty sure SOMETHING was going to happen!!!!” She felt tears coming. Angry tears. She was so incensed she was shaking.
“That wasn’t the point of what I said. The point is that apparently YOU DON”T CARE ABOUT ME!” She screeched, falling to her knees on the white rug. The tears overflowed. “You’re so ready to just up and leave me for months, and not be aware of where I am and what I’m doing. It’s like you can’t wait to get away from me.” She finished in a whisper. He fell down beside her, he seemed on the verge of tears himself. He took her hands in his, she collapsed into his shoulder sobbing.
“Of course I care, I don’t want to leave, but I have to. I know you understand that. Please,” he said raising her face to his, “what can I do to fix this?” She reached up and stroked his face longingly. What he said about her being spoiled was true, but she couldn’t stand him leaving her for a long stretch of time again, it was just too much for her. There was no answer for this problem, she would just have to get used to it.
“You can’t do anything”, she whispered, “I just have to cope.” They both sat there on the white carpet entwined in each other both quietly crying, dreading saying farewell.
